5 Questions You Should Ask Your Photographer

Questions You Should Ask Your Family Photographer:

Planning a family portrait session can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are 5 questions you should ask your photographer before booking your session.

# 1. PRICE

There’s nothing worse than being offered something, getting super excited about it, then finding out it’s lightyears out of your budget. There are as many different prices for family sessions.  You could be looking at a range of $250-$1,000 a session.  Just remember, finding the lowest price, doesn’t mean it’s the best option for you.  Ask what’s included in the price.  Many photographers have different options in their sessions.

# 2. STYLE

Every photographer has their own specific style of shooting. Some are light and airy; while others are dark and moody. Some like to pose every single shot; while others will gather everyone together but allow for the session to unfold organically and some like to mix both of those.  Make sure the photographer’s style that you’re considering is what you’re looking for in portraits.  Check out their Instagram, Facebook and website.

Some photographers charge a session fee for X amount of dollars and you purchase the images after the session.  While other photographers charge a larger amount for both the session fee and the images also known as “All Inclusive Pricing”.

Make sure you ask your potential photographer the turnaround time for receiving your images. This is a big one when it comes time to sending out holiday cards.  Some photographers outsource their editing process which could delay the delivery time for your images.  Understand that turnaround times depends solely on the photographer.  Most photographers include a time on their website.  We typically see a 7-10 day turnaround.

Chances are, your photographer has a list of locations near you that make for a great session location.  It also depends on whether you want your session to be outdoors or in studio.   This is something that you’ll see when reviewing photographer’s styles like we suggested in # 2.
