What to Consider When Choosing a Location
Permits and Fees
Some locations may require permits or may have fees. If you want to use just about any spot in D.C. or Brookside Gardens you’ll need a permit. They are fairly easy to get but can take some time so make sure the consider that when choosing your location.
Weather and Season
Each season offers different visual elements so make sure that you plan for the look that you want to have in your portraits. Even if it’s summer but you know that you want fall foliage, plan now and book that time before the calendar fills up.
Crowds and Privacy
Shooting in places like Washington D.C. is going to be crowded, not impossible, but you’ll have a bit of an audience. So, plan accordingly if you’re hoping to have a quiet session with no audience. Most of the places above are not crowded and we should be able to have an easy session.
Personalizing Your Location Choice
Incorporate Your Hobbies
Are you an athlete or musician? Plan to shoot in your uniform or bring your instrument. We’re telling your story so bring things that help visualize it!
Sentimental Value
Are there places where you and your family go often? Maybe a spot where you and your friends have spent a good amount of time. Think about incorporating a spot that has some sentimental value to you.
