Why should I have prints made when I have the digitals? | Armato Photography, Clarksburg, Maryland Family and Newborn Photographers

This is something we hear ALL of the time. Why spend money having prints made when I have all the digitals? Well, I don’t know about you, but we still don’t know exactly where our wedding photos are. They were given to us on a thumb drive and probably stuck in a box, or drawer somewhere. We had a few prints made and had them framed. Those are hanging on the wall near the stairs for everyone to see.

I can’t stress enough the importance of making prints, albums and canvases of your images. Technology changes so fast and who knows if the DVD you have is going to be readable in 10 years from now. I look back at tape drives floppy disks. For the longevity of your images, have prints made! Have your photographer make the prints with a professional color printing lab. Our lab uses archival quality inks and papers which means these images are guaranteed for 200 Years! They are more expensive than going to Wal-mart or CVS, but, things that are of high quality do cost more. Our labs have all or our color preferences in our profile and know exactly how I’m calibrated. They wont make any color corrections without me asking for it. This means that the colors we see at the shoot and during the editing phase are the exact colors I get in my prints. Your local store or pharmacy often have sharpening filters and color corrections that are made automatically by someone that was sort of taught how to push the green “GO” button on the printer. The lab has professional lab technicians working with my clients work and they take as much care with it as if it was their own. Making prints is the best investment you’ll ever make.

The other reason I love having prints of our images is so we can enjoy them together. Our son has sat with an album loaded with pictures from his birth to present day. He loves sitting and looking back at the “old house” or when he was still in the hospital. My family enjoys seeing them on the walls in our home and looking at linen books and albums on our coffee table. These albums and prints will be handed down as the kids get older and start their families. I just got 3-4 old albums from when I was born and really enjoy sitting with them and looking back in time.

So here are a few of my favorite reasons for making prints. We work closely with two of our favorite color labs in the U.S and take great pride in making products that will be hanging on ours and our clients walls. We offer all the standard print sizes and canvas gallery wraps. We also off linen and leather bound albums. Don’t hesitate to ask us about odd sizes if you have specific sizes that you’d like to make!

How to Prepare For Your Family Portrait Session | Armato Photography, Clarksburg Family Portrait Photographers

We wanted to give you a few simple tips on how you can reduce the stress that might come with planning a family photoshoot. You’ve been pouring over all your local photographers, you’ve landed on Armato Photography, hope this is your last stop, you’ve researched all your favorite locations and now it’s time to get it rockin! Well here are a few things you can do to make the big shoot a total breeze.

Planning the time of day. This may seem obvious but it’s sometimes not. You’re in touch with the kids and how they are throughout the day so choosing a time of day when the kiddos are well rested and in good spirits is key. If you know your kids start to get cranky right before having dinner, maybe best to skip the golden hour time slot. If your kids are like mine and comatose in the mornings, then aim for some afternoon slots. We’ll have some advice for you on when the light is the best, we can schedule around your best times to make sure we’re getting everyone at their best!

Choosing clothes. So this is an important step, but not one to over think. We love to see family members coordinated, but try to avoid looking over matched. Your clothing choices should help show off and express you and your families personalities. If you’re a spunky group, go for bright bold colors. If you’re more into the pastel colors, think soft creams, light greys, light blues and oranges. If this is the look you’re going for we’ll shoot with Fuji 400H film, this tends to push towards the pastel colors and is absolutely stunning! If bolder and spunky is your style, we’ll shoot kodak Portra which tends to be more contrasty and bold. Have clothes chosen in advance, have things dry cleaned and ready to go a few days before.

The biggest consideration when choosing clothes is to pick things that you feel amazing in! You should feel super comfy and feel like a million bucks! This is no time to drag out the “I wonder if this still fits” dress or suite. Go with what shows off who you are and makes you feel great!

Get some rest! Take care to get plenty of rest and drink plenty of water a few days before your session. Coming to the session rested and with plenty of energy will make for some really killer images. If exhausted, you’re going to look exhausted. I know, I know, I hear all the parents right now, RESTED? What does that even mean! Do your best to get everyone to bed early the night before.

Plan something you like to do as a family. This one can be super fun. Do you all like to play board games together? Bring your faves along with you. Do you all play music together? Bring your guitar! Or what ever instrument you might be able to bring. Having an activity that you all can engage in together is great way to get some candid moments of your family all engaged with one another.

Don’t be afraid to be spontaneous! You don’t all have to be staring at the camera the whole time. In fact, we tend to be more documentary style photographers and prefer not to pose every single shot anyway. But don’t be afraid to pick up your little one and set him or her on your shoulders, or toss em up in the air. Just be relaxed and be yourself, do what you would do on any other day and that gives us the ability to capture some really timeless images. We don’t go in to our shoots with pose lists. We love catching natural, candid moments. Though we will do some light posing, we then give you space to interact and let us create some beautiful portraits.

We hope these few tips help make your portrait session fun and relaxing! Portraits don’t have to be a drag so let us take the lead and help make your session stress free!
