Digitals Or Prints? | Clarksburg Family and Newborn Photography
Do you remember floppy disks? I do, when they didn’t read you had to pull them out, blow on them, say a little prayer then try it again. Tape drives came and went in a flash! This is the problem with technology. It evolves so fast. Faster than we can keep up with it. It also fails, and when it does, it can be a major loss if things are not backed up properly.
How many times have you all gathered on the sofa to sit around Mom and Dad’s phones to look at your family pictures? Yeah me neither. But, I’ve lost count of the number of times my two boys have pulled photo books and family albums off the shelf to sit and look at them. They get a kick out of seeing me and my wife when we were their age. I love the nostalgia of looking back and getting to relive those moments from 20-30 years ago. To see the silliness that me and my sisters were up to as kids, and to see how happy everyone was as a family.
Most people today probably couldn’t tell you where that thumb drive is with their wedding on it. $5000 for a wedding photographer and I can’t tell you where my drive is. I know I have it and I know I’ll see it again, but thank God for the prints and album we made. Now every day I get to see those photos and see our guests and family all dancing and having fun. I’ve had prints of both our boys made on fine art paper and on canvas, I’ve made folio boxes with matted prints and made albums of our photos. So when all else fails or gets lost, I know I still have my prints. When you’re forced to evacuate for a natural disaster or fire, you’re going to grab albums and prints, not rummage through the junk drawer looking for that thumb drive.
So now that I’ve advocated strongly for printing your family or newborn portraits either framed or in albums or folio boxes, let me tell you about digitals. Since I know a lot of my clients want to have digitals to share on their social media, you can have both! I offer a full set of digitals with the purchase of an album or folio box. They can be purchased separately as well if you just don’t want anything printed, but, for the money, get a handmade linen album or folio box with those images.
I strongly urge people to make prints of their photos. If you’re going to have a professional take such beautiful photos of your family or your newborn baby, why not have them printed large, have them matted and framed at a local frame shop, and hang them on your walls to enjoy every time you walk past them?
