Outdoor Maternity Sessions | Clarksburg Newborn Photography
I have three great reasons why having your maternity portraits photographed outdoors is the perfect choice. I don’t think the outdoors is better than in the studio, or vice versa, I just think each has its own benefits.
NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL LOCATIONS
One great thing about choosing an outdoor location is taking advantage of the natural beauty of a local park or garden and its variety of backdrops. We photographed the above image at Black Hills Park in Germantown. There are woods, grassy fields, and a lake that offer some gorgeous backdrop options. The best part, they’re all very close to each other so you’re not hiking around for 2 hours. There are three locations in Montgomery County where I love photographing my clients. Each one offers a different fee and look and each also has variety of backdrops.
COMFORT
Something about being in a familiar space makes it less stressful to have your photos taken, especially if you are naturally anxious in front of the camera. The other great thing about being outdoors is having freedom of movement. If you have a long flowy dress and want to show it off, we have plenty of room to do that outdoors. Being in a studio can sometimes make people feel more constricted and uncomfortable.
CAPTURING CANDID MOMENTS
One awesome thing about being in a large space, it takes a few more seconds for me to get into a position where I like to capture an image, this always leads to candid moments as my couples start talking about the pose, or the location, or how it’s time to find the bathroom again. I’m all about photographing candid moments in whatever kind of session I’m shooting. Those are the photos everyone looks back and remembers how silly or funny that moment was. In the photo below I overheard her say, “It’s time to pee again”, he responded with, “Again!?” It created a great candid photo that is actually quite sweet.
So these are just a few reasons why having your maternity session photographed outdoors might be a great choice. I’ll have a blog post up on why having them photographed in studio might be a better choice soon!
